A practical workshop focused on learning some basic mindfulness techniques—mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR)—and applying these in daily life and clinical setttings. Designed to give therapists a beginning acquaintance with MBSR as a complement to psychotherapy methods. Based on the methods of Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD. Learning objectives: 1. to be able to describe the basics of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) to clients or clinicians 2. to demonstrate simple mindfulness techniques in an outpatient psychotherapy setting.

Schedule: 10am Welcome and faculty introductions 10:15 Brief guidance/demonstration in mindfulness meditation 10:30 Definition/description of MBSR 10:45 Instruction and practical exercise in walking meditation 11 Q&A 11:15 Instruction and practical exercise in sitting mediation 12 Discussion of bare attention vs. "gaining idea" 12:15 MBSR as complement to psychotherapy--daily practice 12:45 Q&A and closing remarks
